Are VHaquarell paints suitable for beginners?
Yes, absolutely! Whether you're just starting out or already have experience, you're guaranteed to find the right colors for you at VHaquarell.
There are also many artists offering free tutorials. Check out YouTube and practice right away!
How big are the individual paint pots?
Our 1/2 paint pots measure 1.8 cm × 1.5 cm × 1.0 cm (length × width × height).
💡 Lots of color:
- The standard content of a 1/2 paint pot is 2 ml at maximum filling.
- Thanks to our special filling technology, an additional hill of paint is created above the cup , increasing the total paint content to 2.2 ml or more .
- For comparison: Many manufacturers only fill 1.8 ml or less - but we focus on sustainability and maximum color fun!
This way you get more color than with conventional industrial paints , so you can enjoy your works of art for even longer!
How is the price determined?
On VHaquarell you will find only handmade watercolors .
Unlike industrial manufacturing processes, our colors are mixed, processed, filled and packaged by hand.
The special properties of each individual color and the high level of individual work involved in creating your unique color experience require the use of selected materials and a lot of time – which is reflected in the price.
In direct comparison, our handmade watercolors offer 25-50% more volume than industrial paints. To achieve this, we use the largest possible half-pans and apply an additional layer of paint above the pan. This requires two to three additional layers of paint after the pan has already been completely filled.
Thanks to the use of high-quality, rare pigments and special ingredients to avoid chemical binders and preservatives, we can offer unique watercolor paints that not only have a particularly high filling capacity, but also come with personalized inserts and bonus materials.
Although each paint is crafted with great attention to detail and in traditional craftsmanship, we do everything we can to offer you the fairest price possible – so that you can fully indulge your passion for watercolor painting.
Are the colors harmful to health?
No , our paints are safe to use.
We consciously avoid chemical additives as binding agents or preservatives – instead we use natural, biologically based ingredients .
Of course, the colors are not suitable for consumption, and direct contact with mucous membranes should be avoided.
We recommend that children be accompanied and guided while painting to ensure they use the paints safely and avoid putting them in their mouths. This way, nothing stands in the way of creative painting fun!
Are the handmade watercolors vegan?
Depending on the color collection, our handmade watercolors are either vegan or contain animal products (excluding honey).
- Vegan : The Metallic and Chameleon color collections are completely honey-free and therefore 100% vegan.
- Not vegan : The Honey Watercolor, Neon Colors and Limited Edition collections contain honey as an ingredient.
If you are specifically looking for vegan colors, we recommend our metallic and chameleon collections , which are made without animal products.
On which materials are the colors suitable?
Our handmade watercolors are ideal for paper and offer different effects depending on the collection:
✅ Honey and neon watercolors unfold their full luminosity especially on white paper, as they are not opaque.
✅ Metallic and chameleon watercolors are opaque and look impressive on both white and dark paper .
🔹 Not recommended for: glass, metal, textiles, stone, wood, plastics, food or ceramics.
🔹 Exceptions: Metallic colors can be applied to certain pre-treated surfaces – however, this depends on the individual material processing.
Are the colors waterproof after painting?
No , our watercolors are not waterproof because, like all classic watercolors, they can be dissolved again with water.
💡 Tips for protecting your artwork:
- Store your pictures in a dry place and protect them from moisture .
- Avoid direct contact with water, as the colors may smudge or smear.
- If you want to seal your artwork, you can use special fixative sprays for watercolors to better protect it.

Can I mix the colors with acrylic or oil paints?
❌ No, this is not recommended.
Our watercolors are not suitable for mixing with acrylic or oil paints. These paints have completely different properties:
- Watercolor paints are water-soluble and require paper as a painting surface.
- Acrylic and oil paints rely on oil- or plastic-based binders and dry to be waterproof.
⚠️ Why should you avoid this?
Mixing these paints can lead to undesirable results because the pigments and binders don't bond properly. This can cause the paint to apply unevenly, not adhere, or change color upon drying.
🔹 Recommendation: It is best to use watercolor paints on their own to make the most of their special properties and brilliant color gradients.
Can I mix the colors with other watercolors?
Yes, absolutely! Our handmade watercolors can be easily mixed with other watercolors, opening up countless creative possibilities.

Yes, absolutely! Our paints are particularly easy to activate. Simply add a drop of water to the paint, wait about a minute , and you're ready to go!
💡 Storage tips for long shelf life:
- Avoid light and moisture → Store the paints in a dry place and protected from UV radiation .
- Especially with honey and neon colors → Make sure that the colors are not directly next to each other to avoid sticking.
- Clean storage → Keep the paint box dry and clean so that your paints stay in top condition for as long as possible!
