Air bubbles are a common observation during production

Air bubbles are a regularly observed phenomenon during the production of watercolors.

Long-term production observations show that air bubbles can appear in different colors, pigments, and production stages. They are not intentionally created but develop naturally as materials are mixed, poured, and dried.

Different pigments develop air bubbles differently

Years of production have shown that not every pigment behaves in the same way.

Some pigments are more likely to trap air while being mixed with the binder. As a result, numerous small air bubbles may become suspended within the paint. Other pigments show this behavior much less frequently.

These differences are closely related to the characteristics of the individual materials and have been observed repeatedly throughout long-term production.


New air bubbles may also appear during drying

Air bubbles are not formed exclusively during the mixing stage.

As the watercolor gradually loses moisture during drying, the material begins to shrink. During this process, trapped air may move through the paint and eventually become visible on the surface.

Long-term observations show that this behavior varies between different materials and is not equally noticeable in every color.


Metallic and chameleon watercolors show different behavior

Metallic and chameleon watercolors also display their own characteristic bubble formation.

As these paints dry and contract after being poured into pans, small air bubbles may develop within the spaces created by the shrinking material. This has been a consistently observed phenomenon throughout years of production.

The size, number, and distribution of the bubbles vary depending on the material being used.


Small air bubbles usually do not affect painting performance

Long-term production and usage observations indicate that small air bubbles generally have little influence on the practical use of the watercolor.

After rewetting, the paint normally activates, dissolves, and performs as expected. In most cases, the painting characteristics remain unchanged.

Only in relatively uncommon situations, where larger air pockets create significant internal cavities, may the internal structure of the paint be affected.

Based on years of observation, small air bubbles are generally regarded as a natural characteristic of the production process rather than an indication of poor quality.


Production methods can influence how air bubbles appear

Long-term production records also show that different production methods may influence the final appearance of air bubbles.

As the internal structure develops during different stages of production and drying, the quantity and distribution of visible air bubbles may also change.
